The Role
Job Purpose:
The PDS EPM team (Process, Data & Systems for Enterprise Performance Management) contributes to the EPM digitalization journey and improves processes, data and systems used in EPM. Anaplan is selected as one of the new tools that can drive significant improvements in this space and the Anaplan Expert therefore plays a leading role in the delivery of the EPM Vision. The Anaplan Expert will apply strong leader- and influencing skills, coupled with deep technical Anaplan modelling skills, to set and implement Anaplan Best Practices in Shell, develop the Anaplan modelling competency across teams and coach senior modelers across projects. Furthermore, the expert will deliver multiple complex projects simultaneously and use its network of stakeholders to help the Chief Product Owner establish a healthy project funnel. Anaplan opportunities can be found across processes and businesses, giving the Anaplan Expert a unique opportunity – and challenge – to drive improvements across many different teams and work with/influence many different stakeholders across RDS.
Priorities for this role are:
Creating bottom line impact to RDS by delivering sustainable, best in class, and consistent Anaplan models across businesses and processes – overseeing all projects across the Anaplan Portfolio.
Collaborates with multiple POs and (senior) stakeholders to drive best in class model architecture, challenging business requirements where needed.
Maximise value of the Anaplan Platform in RDS – using in- and external networks to either learn or share the evolving capabilities of Anaplan.
Develops and executes modeling capability development program for RDS. Actively coaches senior modelers.
Collaboration with Anaplan Chief Product Owner in progressing the Anaplan journey in Shell, leading new “customer” engagements, but also via developing own opportunities in network.
Being a senior leader in the PDS team, the role also requires ensuring that Anaplan use cases fit into the wider EPM vision and are aligned with the direction of other Products supported by the PDS team.
Dimensions:
Anaplan was first introduced in Shell in 2017 and since then the number of Anaplan users has grown to approx. 1500 users. It is expected that the number of users will grow to a few thousand in the next 2 to 3 years. Multiple Anaplan implementation and at the same time multiple Anaplan Proof of Concepts (PoCs) in various parts of the RDS Businesses and Functions will require strong central lead from the Anaplan Expert:
The Expert will be involved directly or indirectly (via senior modelers) in all projects on the Anaplan platform,
Developing technical skills of a team of >20 modelers in Shell.
Anaplan is used and is creating value across Businesses and processes, so exposure to planning/Business issues across RDS.
As a result, there is exposure to multiple (senior) stakeholders across Businesses and process that need to be managed.
Organization:
This role reports to the Chief Product Owner Anaplan. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work with senior stakeholders in Finance, IT and Business Technical teams which creates a unique opportunity to develop in a role which operates in a highly dynamic sector and employs complex processes and IT solutions. Principal Accountabilities:
The Anaplan platform allows Businesses to develop very different use cases quite often to replace excel spreadsheets. Alignment of models with the Anaplan datahub and alignment of required functionalities with Business stakeholders is therefore critical.
The role will be responsible for:
Designing architecture for complex models – directing (senior) modelers to execute.
Providing coaching and expert advice to modelers at any given time. Ensures that modelers are utilized in line with capabilities and growth and develop as fast as possible,
Developing and leading the modelling capability development program,
Collaborating closely with multiple senior Product Owners or business to help define user requirements and brings in healthy challenge on business requirements for the use case,
Assist Project Manager or Product Owner in confidently updating (senior) Shell executives on Anaplan project status in DRBs/Steerco/LTs,
Leading engagements with potential new Anaplan customers,
Visibly and (pro-)actively engaging in in- and external communities, such as Shell modeler community, relevant events in the wider teams (Yammer) and external (Anaplan) communities,
Obtained ‘Master Anaplanner’ certification (indication; exceptions possible),
Actively seeking for new opportunities to fill pipeline.
Job Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
To be successful in this role you need a proven ability to work effectively across organisational boundaries, bringing different views together, finding an aligned approach forward. Furthermore, you will have:
Degree in Finance or degree in an IT or other quantitative discipline
Obtained ‘Master Anaplanner’ certification (indication; exceptions possible),
Experienced in tool implementations
Comprehensive understanding of finance/business processes
Ability to translate Business requirements into practical Anaplan solutions
Knowledge of data models (like SCoA)
Strong Stakeholder Management and Business Partnering skills
Ability to work independently with little or no direct supervision, proactive mindset, reaching out to community
Strong delivery mindset and “results” focused
Excellent interpersonal skills with personal confidence to quickly build credibility
Understanding of product ownership as defined by the Agile principles
Strong authenticity with personal confidence to quickly build credibility, respect and rapport.
Strong business acumen, wide experience across the various Shell businesses, understanding of Oil & Gas Industry and its strategic challenges.
